FALL-ing in Love with Autumn Weddings

Writer: Nicole Marshall BrockNicole Marshall Brock

It is official! Autumn is here and the weather is finally cooling off, which means our busiest wedding season is upon us! September- November in Missouri are the most popular months for weddings, with October (at least for my work personally) being the most desired month for weddings. Now if you read my spring wedding blog, some of the same pros and cons come into play for the fall. If you get married in September, it will most likely still be fairly hot out, sometimes even the last weekend in September, and once you move into October you might have to deal with more rain and clouds. Just keep in mind for an outdoor ceremony or reception the later into October and November the cooler and windier it tends to get. If you are getting married outside (especially a rooftop) take into consideration the wind when it comes to your hair. You may want an updo to keep your hair out of your face, and then if your reception is indoor you could always take it down for the second half of the evening. Now let's talk about some of the fun things you can do to make your wedding have the autumn aura surrounding it with the 3 Ds (Desserts, Drinks & Decor).

Desserts: Any type of pumpkin, carmel, apple, or cinnamon spiced cakes will automatically add a warmth and fall nostalgia for your guests. The classic carrot cake is always a great fall go-to as well if you are wanting a variation from the plain and simple vanilla or chocolate cakes. Let's say you don’t want just a basic cake and want a dessert station with different options for your guests; you can do pies, cupcakes, a s’more station, flavored cake pops, or caramel/ pumpkin flavored macarons. The possibilities are endless! What's nice about most of these dessert options, is that they can be made vegan for any dietary restricted guests you might have as well.

Drinks: Not only can you make the food have an autumn flare, but you can also add a spice of flavors to your signature drinks for the same effect. You could put a spin on the standard old fashioned by using maple bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, or apple cider. Maybe a twist on a Whiskey sour by adding cranberry and orange or cranberry and ginger. You can do the same with a sweet amaretto sour. Now remember, nothing helps to warm you up on those cooler fall evenings than some fireball or baileys irish cream, so you should try a fireball sangria or an espresso martini. Since it is sweater weather, apple cider and pumpkin flavors will always be a staple, so imagine a tiramisu or pumpkin spice white Russian or an apple cider mojito. Lastly, taking a classic moscow mule and making it an Irish mule which is Irish whiskey instead of vodka, making it the perfect fall addition for any wedding or event. Any variation of these cocktails should keep you and your guests feeling cozy all night long.

Decor: Now being so close to the Halloween holiday, it's important for a lot of people to keep it classy not tacky. If you are wanting a full on halloween wedding I say go for it! I am just going to give some tips and tricks to the couples who want a fall or halloween vibe, while keeping it modern, classic, and romantic. Matte gold silverware looks amazing for this theme, especially if you are wanting to do a black table cloth. Obviously the burnt oranges, reds, yellow and wine colored florals are typical for fall weddings, but you could also do deep purples and deep dark reds for a haunting and romantic look. Lace is another piece of decor that can make your tablescapes look aged and classic; such as dark lace table runners or a base for centerpieces. You can also have lace elements with you and your bridesmaids dresses to tie everything together into a theme. If you want to add something unique and fun you should get a fog machine for your entrance into the reception or for the dance floor. It will look spooky and intriguing, but also will make your wedding stand out and wow your guests! Lastly, lots of candles! Dark colored candles, or candelabras are going to make a huge statement for your decor and theme.

There are many different options for brides and grooms when it comes to having a certain aesthetic for their weddings. I hope some of these tips help you to create the fall wedding of your dreams! Remember I am always here to help guide you in the process if needed! As always, Cheers to my Beautiful Couples!
